Beginner Lesson
Begins with a brief overview of the various types of kayaks, paddles and
gear on the market and ends with a short tour around the local waterway.
During the course of the lesson you will learn how to safely lift your
kayak, the difference between feathered and unfeathered paddles, entering
and exiting a kayak from the beach or from docks of various heights. Paddle
strokes and techniques will be emphasized, including the basics of moving
forward and in reverse, how to stop effectively, the forward and reverse
sweep strokes, the draw stroke and the sculling draw. You will also learn
the importance of using your lower body, core and upper body to help you
keep proper form and paddle with the highest degree of efficiency and with
appropriate balance. Finally, we will touch upon the two-person and solo
rescue as well as talk about water safety and conditions.

Note: Requires Advance Reservation. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early. If you don't own a kayak, we offer a free complimentary rental for the duration of the lesson.
